What do people in this NG feel the maximum length for a page title
should be?

For that matter, how about keywords and description?

Thanks--Big Slim

I have a site that has 7 main keywords in the meta title tag seperated
by | and each main keyword has shown up high in its serp except for
one. But in order for it to work it requires some anchor text for each
keyword in the title when you post for backlinks.

For that matter, how about keywords and description?
57 characters for title.

Keywords Metatag: Use real words that truly describe your site and each word
can only be listed once, all lower case. No commas between each word
either. The list can be as long as you want, within reason (I say no more
then 500 characters should keep you out of trouble), but must be real words
that actually have something to do with your site. - These key words are
also going to be what we use to gauge and improve your search engine
ranking. If you use words that have nothing to do with your website you can
be removed from search engines. Really, why would you want people coming to
your site when it wasn't what they where looking for in the first place, it
does nothing but give you a bad name.

The description Meta tag: There should be no more then 150 characters
between the quotes and should be a good clear description of your website
and its purpose. This tag is used by search engines and even displayed as
your description when a search engines shows its results, so make sure it is
an accurate and fair description of your website.

Where did you come up with 57 characters for the title? Sounds
suspiciously exact.

What is the minimum length for the title tag? There are many titles referring 60-70 characters as the optimum length or advocate keeping title tag length less than 70 characters. But I want to know is there any minimum length for the title tag & is there any negative effect for title tags having less characters than the minimum length or very short title tags for that matter?

TITLE TAG should be between 6 and 12 words although I have seen excellent
ranking with one keyword in the title. Generally accepted practice is
between 1 and 12 I believe.
Make it Keyword rich and place the more prominent keywords first.

KEYWORDS - These do no good in Google anymore but will work for other SE's
and are used by some directories as well. I try to use between 0 and 45
depending upon what I am SEO'ing for. I don't use commas anymore, and I
lose the "and" "is" and "the" type words because Search engines filter them
out anyway.

DESCRIPTION - This is an important tag still in that it provides Google and
many others with a text description of what your site is about. Important
for visitors, perhaps not as critical for SEO as it once was. I try to keep
it between 10 and 25 words. Make this keyword rich as well and place the
most important keywords first. This tag can use good copywriting skills.
You want to describe what you do AND show how your site can BENEFIT the
visitor in just 25 words or less...not easy.

Your best title is just your main keyword phrase for that page.

If the page is about African Rainforest with Pink Trees then the best
title is-

<title>African Rainforest with Pink Trees</title>

If you feel confident about a phrase and you feel it's worth going
after an additional word or phrase then consider doing it. So you
could go after 2 phrases, but the more words you add the less benefit
it will add for each word. So for highly competitive phrases it's best
to go after one a page.

Don't forget your visitors see this text and so may make the
difference between a visit or not.

As above, though I don't use this meta tag, but if you must use it
don't go over the top as your wasting your time for Google.

As above except I'd say it's only important to visitors and so has no
role in SEO. Basically use no more than 138 characters (that's how
many characters Google shows) and only think visitors not SEO.

I still use this tag, but you could make a page without it.

The maximum length should be ideally under 64 characters only.
This is since "The title should ideally be less than 64 characters in length. That is, many applications will display document titles in window titles, menus, etc where there is only limited room." http://www.w3.org/Provider/Style/TITLE.html
