Hi.
I'll add to your reply as it's closest to what I do :-))
Post by JamesTITLE TAG should be between 6 and 12 words although I have seen excellent
ranking with one keyword in the title. Generally accepted practice is
between 1 and 12 I believe.
Make it Keyword rich and place the more prominent keywords first.
Your best title is just your main keyword phrase for that page.
If the page is about African Rainforest with Pink Trees then the best
title is-
<title>African Rainforest with Pink Trees</title>
If you feel confident about a phrase and you feel it's worth going
after an additional word or phrase then consider doing it. So you
could go after 2 phrases, but the more words you add the less benefit
it will add for each word. So for highly competitive phrases it's best
to go after one a page.
Don't forget your visitors see this text and so may make the
difference between a visit or not.
Post by JamesKEYWORDS - These do no good in Google anymore but will work for other SE's
and are used by some directories as well. I try to use between 0 and 45
depending upon what I am SEO'ing for. I don't use commas anymore, and I
lose the "and" "is" and "the" type words because Search engines filter them
out anyway.
As above, though I don't use this meta tag, but if you must use it
don't go over the top as your wasting your time for Google.
Post by JamesDESCRIPTION - This is an important tag still in that it provides Google and
many others with a text description of what your site is about. Important
for visitors, perhaps not as critical for SEO as it once was. I try to keep
it between 10 and 25 words. Make this keyword rich as well and place the
most important keywords first. This tag can use good copywriting skills.
You want to describe what you do AND show how your site can BENEFIT the
visitor in just 25 words or less...not easy.
As above except I'd say it's only important to visitors and so has no
role in SEO. Basically use no more than 138 characters (that's how
many characters Google shows) and only think visitors not SEO.
I still use this tag, but you could make a page without it.
