Hi,

Is there a way to search google for results that only appear on the Top
level domain (The index page or home page) of a website, and not show me
the results that in other pages ?

Uhm, why would you need that? Open the page in your browser and use
Ctrl+F (or whatever brings up the in page search).

Sorry,

Probably didn't word it well.

If I was searching for "banana", I only want results from
www.example.com, not results from www.example.com/fruit/yellow/ or
www.example.com/fruit/banana.html

I want those results as part of SEO research.

Yup, I got that, but I can't think of a way to do that with Google.

I can think of using some negative operators thrown in, but that would
only work if the number of subdirectories is limited, and I'm not sure
what the limit is. Something like that:

banana site:example.com -example.com/fruit/

I ran it on my own site (no, not for 'banana' :) ) and it does bring some
sufficiently targeted results that tend to gravitate towards the homepage.
Well, at least first result in this case would always be the homepage
'cause it's a better linked/ranked page on any site. In any case, with
further refinement of results in a software and, again, especially if
there are not too many directories you have to exclude, this may give you
what you're looking for.

banana site:example.com -example.com/fruit/
I tried that and the results were useful, thanks.

I'll give a real example of what I'm trying to do.

Pefkos is a greek village. There's loads of travel sites which cover
Pefkos as part of their cover of all greek or world travel, but not many
actually purely about Pefkos. I could look for sites with Pefkos in the
TLD name, but there's some good sites the aren't named Pefkos.

I'm trying to count the sites that are actually about Pefkos as a
subject matter, rather than just covering it as a page in a much wider
subject. This is just research stuff at present.
