If a new website is themed on something seasonal, EG UK Soccer Season,
would it make a difference to ultimate rankings when the site is released?

Would it be better to release it at a time when there's plenty of
searches for the topic, or would it make no difference if the site was
released out of season when searches are low?

*** Yes. Search engines must be given time to locate the content and
present it in search results, and visitors must be given time to find
that website. By the time that happens, the event may have passed.

*** My suggestion is to already have a site set up with relevant
information to the topic that people would want all year round. Then on
the main page, advertise any upcoming events, seasons, etc., preferably
with a date when visitors can expect that information -- then *stick* to
that date!

Simply making up a website with date-sensitive information will see
many fewer visitors because of the time it takes people to even find that
site. This is worse if there are already dozens of popular, competing
websites.

Be sure that you have proper and focused title, meta and first-page
keywords so that search engines will rank your site higher.
